Rugby: Tunbridge Wells No 8 in great Nick and in exalted company

NICK DOHERTY, Tunbridge Wells RFC’s exciting No 8 met England and British & Irish Lions hooker Jamie George at the Rugby Football Union players’ awards night at Twickenham on August 30.

Nick was nominated for the category of National Amateur Player of the Year after his outstanding season with Wells. He was pipped to the award by Sam Neave of West Leeds RFC.

His mother, girlfriend Chloe Salter and eight club members also attended the gala dinner.

Nick had the chance to rub shoulders with Owen Farrell, the England fly-half who won the professional player award, along with a host of other famous rugby names including Chris Robshaw, the Vunipola brothers, Sevens star Dan Norton and Maggie Alphonsi, the former England women’s player who commentated at the World Cup in Ireland. Last year Tunbridge Wells won the Team of the Year award.
