THE 26TH Tonbridge Triathlon will be held on the May Bank Holiday (Monday May 1) this year, it has been announced.
Organised by the Lions Club, the annual event will take place at the Tonbridge School complex, with the swimming and running legs being hosted at their facilities.
The running route will go uphill via the A227 through Shipbourne, Ivy Hatch and Seal.
Around 500 athletes will be drawn from over the UK, competing over two distances. The standard length consists of an 800 metre swim, 50km cycle and 10km run whilst the sprint is half the distance in all fields.
There is also a team relay event over the sprint distance, in which three team members do one discipline each.
Chairman of the organising committee, Lion Paul Davidson said: “Our aim is, as always, to provide an event that is enjoyed by the competitors and spectators alike whilst raising money for local charities.
“Since the inaugural Tonbridge Triathlon in 1991, the event has raised over £200,000 that Tonbridge Lions have used to support local charitable causes.”
The target this year is to raise over £13,000 for the Lions.
