TEN triathletes from Tunbridge Wells braved brutal headwinds for the End of Season Sprint race in Lydd, which had been selected as the Club Championships.

The race started with a 530m open water swim before the 20km bike leg out to Camber Sands and back.

The wind made bike-handling -unnerving for some and progress was slow as athletes battled the elements.

The contest concluded with a 5.3km run looping around the lakes.

The race was won by Thomas White in 1hr 3min, while Kieran Fitzpatrick was first home for Tunbridge Wells, claiming second place overall in 1:04. A strong bike leg saw him move up from 17th after the swim.

Dave Mahon claimed first veteran and third overall in a time of 1:07, ahead of Lloyd Collier who recorded the second fastest run leg to finish fourth in 1:08.

For the ladies Pippa Whitby claimed second place in 1:19. Suzanna Kinsella followed shortly after in 1:25 to take third place overall. Clare Roche kept up her good form to finish first F60.
