Triathlon: Tunbridge Wells’ Gibson shows electric pace in national sprint challenge

LEADING LIGHT Abi Todd was named Kent League Player of the Year

PETER GIBSON of Tunbridge Wells Triathlon Club was in top form at the National Sprint Championships in the Thorpe Park Triathlon.

Electric pace across all three disciplines (50m swim, 21km bike ride and 5km run) secured him third place in M25 Age Group, finishing sixth overall from 474 competitors in a time of 1hr 03min.

Clare Roche secured 1st F60 (1hr 44min) in the Blenheim Palace Sprint Triathlon (750m, 19.8km, 5.4km), with Suzannah Kinsella also racing over the same distance (1hr 33min, F45).

Lloyd Collier took things to another level by completing six sprint races in the Weekend Warrior. This unorthodox format involves continuous transition from one race to the next. Lloyd only stopped when his wetsuit’s zip gave up, and averaged 1hr 30min per race.

FRONT RUNNER Claire Howard (right) was first female veteran in South Lincolnshire

Claire Howard achieved 1st Vet (2hr 55min) in South Lincolnshire for the Tallington Lakes Olympic Distance Triathlon (1500m, 42km, 10km), while Helen Waite conquered her first open water swim to finish in 3hr 17min.

David Bagge surprised himself on his return, clinching 1st M50 and 11th place overall in 1hr 05min. Natalie Berre–Adams also impressed as 1st F50 in at time of 1hr 18min.

Pippa Whitby (1hr 29min) finished fourth female overall at the Ardingly Sprint Triathlon.
