Theatre lands £35,000 in Covid Arts Council funding

The money is being distributed by Arts Council England as part of an Emergency Response Package to help artistic groups struggling througout Covid-19 pandemic.

Like all theatres, the former Decimus Burton church in Church Road has been closed during the coronavirus lockdown and is to receive £35,000 in funding help.

There are 7,484 grants being handed to artists and creative groups across the UK, with 182 individuals and 78 independent organisations in Kent receiving cash totalling £2.1million.

Hedley Swain, Area Director for the south east at Arts Council England, said: “Our sector is in unprecedented times and I am very pleased that we have been able to award so many grants in Kent and beyond in such a short timeframe.

“We’re extremely grateful to our partners for helping us to get this critical funding to artists, creative practitioners, arts organisations, museums and libraries – who use their creativity to benefit communities in villages, towns and cities across the country.”
