Skinners' parents host Christmas Fair in bid to raise £25,000 for new library

The event is the school’s biggest fundraising venture of the year and the PA has the ambitious goal of raising £25,000 to provide furniture for the new school library.

This forms part of a new building, to be completed in June next year, which will allow the school to expand and accommodate more students.

The Christmas Fair allows the St John’s Road grammar school to embrace the wider community in order to enjoy the festive season together in an ideal location close to the town centre.

Described as a fair ‘like no other’, it offers more than 70 stalls filling every hall in the school, using its facilities to their full capacity; it runs from 11am to 2pm.

Brenda Purse, the PA’s new Chair, told the Times: “It will be like the Salzburg Christmas Market in the centre of Tunbridge Wells!

“But it will be even better as we will have a BBQ, courtesy of dedicated Skinners’ parents, making the best burgers this side of the Atlantic.

“It doesn’t get better than that!”

She added: “Our determination and commitment as a team has enabled us to organise a very special fair that is not only hoping to raise funds to furnish the new library, but to make The Skinners’ School a central part of the local community.”

Raffle prizes include an Apple iPad with an Apple Pencil and a Megaboom Wireless Speaker, along with a host of exciting experiences donated by local companies.

These include a family portrait session with professional photographer Paul Barsby, eight personal training sessions at TWPT, and tickets to the sell-out show Disney on Ice at the O2 Arena.

The PA is also taking pre-orders for high-quality, sustainably-sourced Nordman Non-Drop Christmas trees from Scotland and Norway, which will be available alongside a wide variety of Christmas products.

These include Skinners’ branded Christmas puddings, sourced from the same suppliers used by Selfridges and Harrods, printed with the school crest.

There will also be a chance to
play Last Man Standing, a massive 30ft x 30ft inflatable challenge with a Top Gear-style leaderboard and an Apple iPad donated by the main sponsor, Andrews Property Group, for the winner.
