Rugby: TJs are crowned champions – now uncharted territory awaits

TONBRIDGE JUDDIANS secured the National Three London & South-East league title with a game to spare on a very hot day at the Slade.

The supporters celebrated with the team afterwards and they looked forward to the club’s next challenge.

Jon McMahon opened the scoring, and James Copsey also went over and converted his own try before adding a penalty to settle TJs’ nerves.

Cole Campbell added the third score which Copsey converted to give TJs a 22-0 half-time lead.

With TJs needing five points from their last two games, a fourth try was needed to give them the chance of maximum points from this match, and Will Ward provided it just after the break.

TJs could relax a little but not too much. Tom Nicoll and Murray Galbraith-Lowe scored further tries before Jon McMahon added his second.

TJs now have a weekend off before they travel to Southend Saxons on April 22 for their final league game.

Then they take on Sidcup in the Kent Cup Final at Canterbury RFC on Sunday April 30, kicking off at 4.30pm.

Then they can relax before beginning preparations for their first ever league campaign in National Two South.
