RTW Monson rise to second in Kent Junior League final

The club hosted the final at the St John’s Road pool and finished an impressive second with 20 points, only four behind Thanet and two ahead of Sevenoaks, with Bromley, Beckenham and Greenwich completing the line-up.

The team amassed 14 first places, with Aran Bissett, Max El-Mokadem and Emilia Oliver the stand-out swimmers of the evening.

Both boys and girls dominated the 11 and 12 years age groups, with the 11-year-old boys winning every event to secure maximum points.

Having finished fourth last year, coach Karen Bradbury was thrilled with the A team’s progress, saying: “I am extremely proud of this young team making fantastic progress to finish second. Next year we have our eyes set on winning the league.

“Our young Captains demonstrated great team spirit, leading the team into the loudest support of the evening. Both Lily Barwick and Toby Edwards have swam since the age of nine in the League, learning valuable lessons along the way.”

RTW Monson’s B team competed in Division Two at Eltham and came fourth overall. Coach Katie Bowman said: “Personal bests and good swims were the focus of the night, and we had many of both. Coming fourth wasn’t a reflection on how close some of the races were for the top three places.”

Many of the Kent Junior League swimmers will now be training alongside RTW Monson’s seniors ahead of the Arena League Premier Final at Wycombe on December 14.

“Karen and her team have worked really hard with the application of technical skills and aerobic development,” said head coach Graham Bassi.

“I have witnessed very strong progress over the last two years. This junior team is the club’s future and its potential is very strong.

“The programme will continue with its traditional pathway for long-term development, providing our swimmers with all the attributes for the future.”To join RTW Monson contact membershipenquiry.rtwmonson@gmail.com
