THE Kent Muddy Dog Challenge at Hever Castle raised more than £99,000 for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home last Saturday (September 30).

The canines and their splattered owners took on 2.5km or 5km obstacle courses, running through doggy ball pits, balancing on beams and crawling through filthy tunnels.

The winners of the 5km race, in an impressive time of 35 minutes, were Chris Penn and his accomplice Tess, raising £300 in the process.

Chris said: “I’m so relieved to have been the first person to cross the finish line as my nieces and nephews would never have let me live it down!

“Tess and I have had a fantastic morning raising money for Battersea and we can’t wait to take part in next year’s challenge.”

The six-strong Farningham Frolickers team raised more than £1,000 by organising cinema events in their local village hall.

The team featured Hayley Williams of Sevenoaks, who dressed up in a spotted dog outfit to match her Labrador cross Harvey.
