Making sweet music in Tonbridge

Gary Jefferies

THE final concert of Tonbridge Music Club’s 2016-17 series takes place this Saturday, and we are very delighted and proud to be welcoming the London Handel Players’ ensemble.

Described by The New York Times as possessing ‘consummate skill and musicianship’, they will be performing a varied programme entitled Pearls of the Baroque – A Celebration of Telemann and His Illustrious Contemporaries. It promises to be a real musical feast from these leading period-instrument specialists, and a grand finale to the Tonbridge Music Club season.

There’s nothing like the thrill of a live concert, and we as a group have been bringing great classical music and acclaimed international musicians to Tonbridge for over 50 years.

We started in 1962 with the intention of bring top quality music to the town. Each season we host a variety of concerts, and this runs from October to May. We are fortunate enough to welcome many world class artists, and this season they have included musical talent such as pianist Alexander Ullman, British vocal ensemble VOCES8, and the world renowned Chilingirian String Quartet.

As well as our high profile concerts we are able to showcase the talents of many young musicians, giving them the opportunity of performing at the start of their careers. Throughout each season we also give occasional pre-concert talks and masterclasses.

We hope that next season, when we will be celebrating our 55th anniversary, people will come along and hear for themselves what we do and support our work.

The London Handel Players perform on Saturday (May 6) at 7.30pm at the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Tonbridge. For more information on Tonbridge Music Club, visit www.tmc.org.uk
