Hooked on fishing: Clear water has the fish jumping at Bewl
7th December 2018
BEWL WATER anglers have been blessed with some fantastic conditions for trout fishing as the weather cools and the water clarity continues to improve.
The fish have been very active with many being caught close to the surface, and during the afternoons they have been seen rising and jumping in many areas of the reservoir.
Popular and productive areas or fishing continue to be the main bowl, the entrance to Bewl straight and more recently the canoe club corner and in front of the playground.
All methods have produced results with many anglers catching bags of up to eight fish.
The recently stocked rainbows have proven to be hard-fighting and enjoyable to catch with several reports showing fish of 3lb or more.
Bewl has seen a number of young anglers join us last month, taking advantage of our junior permits and fishing as one of three generations in our fleet of boats.
Predator fishing has yet to turn on completely but a range of 10lb-plus pike have been reported this week alongside some very active one-and-a-half perch, which have proved good sport to some of the regular anglers.
As Christmas nears, the tackle shop has seen an increase in voucher sales, so do get in touch with us if you want to make a present of a day’s fishing or a voucher to spend on tackle. Boat fishing continues until January 31 and the fishery only closes on Christmas Day.
Anglers fishing on Fridays can enjoy a Festive Friday Lunch at the Boathouse Bistro, with turkey and all the trimmings for just £9.95 per person from 12-4pm.
Book a table in the lodge when you purchase your permits or call on 01892 890000.
