Hockey: Tunbridge Wells Ladies show true grit to topple Broxbourne

THE Ladies pulled off an impressive win at second-placed Broxbourne and are now in fourth place in East Region Division One South.

Both teams started strongly, but it was the home side that managed to put away a goal within the first 10 minutes.

But a well executed routine from their first short corner saw Wells captain and player of the match Jen Hunt fire a shot past the keeper to level the scores going into half-time.

In the second half there were energetic perfomances from Wells’  inners Perdi Knight and Hunt and the visitors began to make thoughtful leads to collect the ball more quickly.

Broxbourne were well organised at the back, however, frustrating Wells’ attacks and showing why they have had such a successful campaign.

A rare error, however, saw them concede another penalty corner, from which Amy Hare found the bottom left corner to give Wells the lead.

Hunt still found time to engineer a final goal via a deflection to round off a gritty performance as their determination saw them take points off the top two sides in the league.

Next Wells travel to Burnt Ash for the final game before the winter break on Saturday (December 9).
