Hockey: Tunbridge Wells Ladies denied by late line call

TUNBRIDGE WELLS Ladies came unstuck on their visit to the south coast, losing to a Folkestone team trying to avoid relegation from East Region Division One South.

The game started at a high tempo and Wells moved the ball around well with Jenn Hut provided a calming influence, looking to set loose the speedy forwards.

Wells had a number of chances early on and enjoyed the majority of possession but a breakaway from a turnover saw Folkestone bear down on goal with three on two and score.

The visitors put pressure on Folkestone throughout the rest of the game with Pip Ross regularly hurtling up the right-hand side of the pitch towards goal.

Wells saw a number of promising passes by Ross, Amy Jones and Alex Sacker somehow cleared away by the Folkestone defence.

The final minutes saw Wells win a string of short corners. From the last of these they thought they had forced a rebound over the line but the goal was not awarded.

After the narrow defeat the team will regroup for the last two games of the season to ensure that they finish on a high.

The first of those fixtures is against top of the table Broxbourne at Hawkenbury on Saturday (March 17, 1pm start).
