Hockey: Tunbridge Wells head into winter break on top of table

TUNBRIDGE WELLS Men go into the Christmas break on top of South Premier League Two following a draw at Tonbridge School.

A tough fixture was expected against opponents who two years ago played in the National League.

Wells were fortunate not to go into the break a goal down with James Harris making several saves including from a penalty flick.

They emerged in the second half with more energy and took the lead, James Beck bundling home from a short corner.

Guildford pressure finally led to an equaliser, with a neat deflection over the diving Harris.

Although Wells worked hard to find the winner, the Guildford keeper made several good saves.

Wells will be pleased with their success after achieving promotion, and will return in the new year refreshed for their home match against Staines on January 13.
