Interiors inspired by afar are still very much a key look to go for this season and they couldn’t be easier to achieve in your own home right now given the amount of eclectic ethnic pieces of furniture and accessories. The high street (and online) is a veritable treasure trove – or should that be a souk or brocante – full of perfect globetrotting finds including Berber rugs, hammered metal accessories and ethnic print cushions – not to mention the now ubiquitous oversized pot plants. By adding just a few of these to your existing interior will help to give it an altogether more exotic feel ….

Dark arts

The trend for moody jewel coloured tones shows no sign of waning this season, despite it being spring when traditionally a lighter tonal palette is applied. Using rich deep shades on soft furnishings and walls creates instant drama but be careful not to go too overboard otherwise all you’ll achieve is overkill. So pick your statement pieces wisely, perhaps an occasional chair upholstered in a rich royal blue as illustrated in this picture. If you’re not brave enough to go too bold with this look then you can always invest in some accent accessories to give a nod to this look. Cushions, throws or a collection of ceramic objects in inkier tones will still help you to express your dark side nicely ….
