Fish and chips, full English breakfast and scotch eggs. All three are classic dishes that make us proud to be British. Though perhaps the most patriotic dish of all is the humble Sunday roast.Dating back to the 18th century, this traditional meal has stayed true to its origins and still consists of the same main components as it did back then.

1. THE MARK CROSS INNMARK CROSS

Part of the fabulous Whiting and Hammond group, The Mark Cross Inn serves a multitude of delicious roasts every Sunday. Their roast chicken sharer, priced at £29.95 and ideal for two people, is served whole and carved at the table.

2. THE BOTTLE HOUSE INN – SMARTS HILL

Built in 1492, The Bottle House Inn is a stunning country pub located near Penshurst. Their small but perfectly formed roast menu features this ridiculously good free range loin of pork, served with crackling and all the trimmings.

3. THE BLACK HORSE – PEMBURY

Exquisite seafood restaurant The Black Horse also serves a fantastic carvery every Sunday. Choose between (or enjoy all of!) the ?ve meats and indulge in the great selection of sides, whilst also saving room for one of the delicious desserts included in the price!

4. THE TUNBRIDGE WELLS HOTEL – TUNBRIDGE WELLS

Located on The Pantiles, The Eating House at The Tunbridge Wells Hotel serves an outstanding selection of roasts in a beautiful setting. Priced at £22 per person for two courses, the bacon wrapped pheasant breast is a particular highlight.

5. THE BEACON – RUSTHALL

Founded by I’ll Be Mother, The Beacon is set in 17 acres of beautiful countryside. From £20 per head (minimum six people) you can ‘host a roast’ and let the wonderful team take care of everything. The roast leg of lamb is outstanding.
