RUSTHALL Reserves began a successful defence of their Tunbridge Wells Charity Senior Cup title against Woodlands from the Sevenoaks & District Premier League.

Rusthall pressed hard and after 25 minutes the breakthrough came. A cross from the right reach Spencer Flowers at the back post, who thumped the ball into the net.

A free kick to Rusthall saw Adam James head the ball in for the home side’s second.

Then the Woodlands keeper tried to punch a clearance but the ball fell to George Salter, who fired it through a group of players into the net.

In the second half James recorded his second g0al of the match and then Theo Cunningham, who had just come on as a substitute, found the net with a long-range effort.

Rusthall will now meet Blackham & Ashurst in the semi-finals after they returned from Hunton with a convincing 6-1 victory.

In the other semi, AFC Valour of Horsmonden await the winners of the Southborough vs West Farleigh tie, to be played on December 22.

In the Intermediate Cup section, Southborough Reserves brushed aside Rusthall 3rd XI to set up a meeting with Pembury, who enjoyed an impressive 1-0 win at Malgo, a team playing two divisions higher in the Sevenoaks & District League. Seal will play Eccles, who overcame Hawkenbury at home.

In the Junior Cup, Woodlands 2nd XI overcame Southborough 3rds 3-1 and will meet Penshurst Park, who beat Hawkenbury Reserves 3-0, while Roselands will host West Farleigh Reserves.
