Football: Back to back wins for Tonbridge Angels

Football: Rebels down Tonbridge Angels again as visitors pay the penalty

TONBRIDGE ANGELS recorded back to back league victories for only the second time this season against a Thurrock side who remain without a single point on the road in Bostik League Premier.

Nathan Elder skimmed the bar with a header in the seventh minute and Alex Akrofi rounded keeper Jake Jessup but could not finish from a narrow angle.

Tonbridge were dominant but it took until the 42nd minute for them to take the lead. A free kick from Joe Turner was fumbled by Jessup and Nathan Elder was on hand to fire the loose ball home.

Tonbridge scored again six minutes into the second half. Jack Parter’s low cross into the danger area saw Akrofi get in front of his marker to slot the ball past Jessup.

The Tonbridge defence was superbly marshalled by Sonny Miles and Craig Stone and no real chances were created by Thurrock.

It was something of a surprise when Lewwis Spence rose highest at the far post to head home a free kick for a late consolation in stoppage time.

Angels manager Steve McKimm said: “I’m very pleased with the result, the three points and the way my players performed this evening.

“Thurrock threw a bit at us in the last 10 minutes or so but we dealt with virtually all of it.”
