Tonbridge Lions Club has contributed £2,100 towards upgrading computers and other equipment at the Kent hub of West Kent Debt Advice [WKDA] in the town’s Baptist Church in Darenth Avenue.
The club’s President, Gordon Hill, paid a visit to the officers and said: “The Lions are pleased to support the WKDA, which is doing such a worthwhile and professional job in giving free advice local people with serious debt problems.”
He added: “In many cases, the root of the problem was the easy availability of credit, especially through plastic cards.”
WKDA started locally as the Tonbridge Debt Advice Centre in 2004.
It has since changed its name as other branches opened throughout the region.
WKDA then merged with another free debt advice charity of a similar size and ethos and is now operating under the umbrella name of Crosslight.
An independent, community-focused charity, it works to alleviate poverty caused by debt.
WKDA plays a key role in the combined operation, providing funding, local accountability and strategic oversight, as well as finding and training the 70 volunteers advisors needed to support the work in Kent.
