Crazy Jeans kart teams warm up for Dunorlan Park race with Bewl Water test

Soapbox karts were put through their paces in a pre-season test ahead of one of Tunbridge Wells’ biggest charity events.

In a Formula One-style practise session, five teams competing in June’s Crazy Jeans time trial showed their colours at Bewl Water reservoir last week.

Up to 10,000 spectators are expected to cheer on teams, formed of businesses and community groups, when they compete at Dunorlan Park on Saturday, June 16.

Garry Jefferey, owner of Jean’s Kitchen and Wine Bar in Tunbridge Wells, is organising the event which he hopes will raise £50,000 for local charities.

Teams from Auto Windscreens, TRICE Insurance, Geoffrey Insurance and a combined effort from One Warwick Park Hotel and Zenith Insurance, all tried out their karts at the practise run.

The karts are powered by gravity alone and steered by a driver. There is also a junior competition.

Race day culminates in a grand finale with the four fastest teams in both the junior and main races going head to head to find the ultimate Crazy Jeans winner.

Lizzie Smith-Foreman, of event sponsors Markerstudy Group, said: ‘It was brilliant fun for all involved.

‘A temporary karting track was constructed with jumps and chicanes for the time trials and it proved a huge success, with victory taken by the Zenith Aviation/One Warwick Park Hotel kart.’
