Angels hang on for vital win thanks to Da Costa

Former Saints player Khale Da Costa was causing all sorts of problems for the visitors on the left flank early on and Tom Derry should have scored from his cross in the fifth minute.

In the 29th minute a free kick was awarded to Tonbridge just outside the area and new loanee signing Ben Greenhalgh fired it into the top right-hand corner of the net.

From the restart Oliver Sprague nearly equalised but Angels keeper Jonny Henly was equal to the task, the half ending with the visitors starting to assert themselves.

After the break Tonbridge were still edging the contest but they couldn’t quite put the game to bed.

Finally, Da Costa was on hand to double the Angels’ advantage in the 77th minute following good work from substitute Jason Williams.

With the game seemingly safe, Tonbridge were cruising but Zane Benton gave the visitors hope on 89 minutes to set up an exciting end.

Tonbridge could have gone further ahead, however, with Joe Turner missing a glorious chance in stoppage time.
