A mix of art and science

Tell us a little about the history of No.6 Clinic and its ethos…?

I’ve been working as an aesthetic nurse since 2001. My journey to No.6 began in Harley Street before moving on to clinics in Brighton and Tunbridge Wells. In 2006, I decided to take the plunge by renting a room at a medical practice – that’s where it all began. Since then I’ve moved three times.

This year I decided to separate our services by moving all the advanced skin treatments, beauty and retail into St John’s Road, as it’s becoming quite a little hub for independents and, with the great parking, it seemed like a natural move.

Dr Gilani and I still have the No.6 Clinic in Clayfield Mews and that is purely a medical aesthetic practice.

You’ve recently won the Muddy Stilettos Award for Best Beauty Salon – what’s the secret of your success??

I’m a trained nurse, so caring has always been central to my ethos. I genuinely care about people and want to make a difference to their day or week.

I think providing a space for my clients where they can enjoy some true ‘me’ time is a big contributor to why so many keep coming back. Ensuring that they trust you and feel looked after is just as important. We are providing the highest quality treatments by experienced, caring and friendly staff.

You’ve also recently revamped your premises. What prompted this??

We did it so we are better able to provide the advanced treatments and the variety of products that we offer.

All the brands we use are result-driven, but we also design our own signature facials to ensure it’s a relaxing and therapeutic experience.

The retail is also important as these products are in high demand and you can only buy them from an authorised clinic. Our products include Environ and Dermaquest, plus the full range of pure mineral make-up by Jane Iredale.

How have your services evolved over the past year??

We now employ eight team members and are open six days a week, including evenings. There is also an online booking service available to our customers. Our website is run by my husband, Matt Clarke, and is growing month

by month. We are fortunate enough to have Skinceuticals available on there as of next month. When that happens, we will be the leading cosmeceutical brand website in the UK.

Which treatments and procedures do you find are particularly popular around this time of year??

Facials and eye treatments are exceptionally popular this season as the cold winter months begins to dry out the skin. Christmas is also a very busy, and sometimes stressful, period, so our brand new relaxing treatments are certainly going down a storm.

What trends are you anticipating in the New Year??

Jessica Phenom nail polish, without a doubt. We’ve just starting doing the manicures and soon we will be stocking retail. The quality of the polish is fantastic – it nurtures nails and leaves a gel-like shine. It’s essentially a cross between gels and varnish. It lasts longer and there’s no need to soak the nails to remove the colour.

Skin peels are getting more and more advanced, gentle on the skin but more active. The results really are spectacular.

LED and infra-red light will only continue to

grow in popularity as it’s amazing for the skin. It plumps, reforms and hydrates with no downtime. Our signature No.6 power facial combines a prescribed peel and light therapy for your skin type, this saves on cost to you plus increases and lengthens the results you see in your skin. It’s completely prescribed for your skin type, so there are huge variations in the peels that are available.

Tell us a little about your men’s range of treatments, and your decision to branch?into men’s health??

The decision simply came from client demand. Lots of my customers were booking for their partners. There were so many enquiries that it seemed ridiculous to not move in that direction.

We did a lot of research on male beauty and launched our male menu.

More information on this is available on our website.

Your website states that the?No.6 Clinic is where art and science create beauty – tell us about the science of beauty

?We are a result driven clinic, so?all of our products contain active ingredients such as AHA to exfoliate, vitamin C to fight damage and vitamin A to renew.

We pride ourselves in being able to offer the most advanced skincare and treatments available, and tailor-make them all to

the individual.?We offer a new discover skin

session, which is a free 30 minutes and includes a mini 10 facial to see the difference.

We’re passionate about skincare and the results speak for themselves.

The art side is the finishing touches, such as defining the eyebrows and make-up technique.
