Esquires hint Tunbridge Wells coffee shop could open next month

7th May 2018

Esquires will 'not just be another coffee shop' when it opens in Tunbridge Wells this summer, its Managing Director has said.

If a planning application is successful, the café will move into the former India Jane shop on Mount Pleasant and will offer a menu specially chosen to suit the town.

The company, which operates from 36 locations, said the eatery could open by the end of June, but has not specified a date.

Esquires will be within walking distance of independent and chain coffee shops in the town centre, including the new Starbucks, also set to open on Mount Pleasant inside the current Knight Frank estate agent.

Doug Williamson, Managing Director, said: 'It's not easy competing with Costa, Starbucks and Caffe Nero...so we don't.

'We at Esquires recognise that we are not a big, deep pocketed high street brand.

'When the residents of Tunbridge Wells visit Esquires they will feel the same way the community in our recently opened Putney store felt, which was a sense of relief.

'We will create a special place. We are not another coffee shop, we are better.'

Mr Williamson, who co-founded the company in 1993, said Esquires will offer power receptacles, host pizza and cupcake making days and will welcome dog owners to bring in their pets.

Esquires has not yet said what is likely to be on the Tunbridge Wells menu, only that it is likely to be a variation to what is found in other cafes, which includes a selection of coffees, juices, beer, wine, snacks, hot food and sandwiches.
