Coffee of the week: The Cake Shed

We went to:

The Cake Shed, a hugely popular cafe situated on The Pantiles, famed for their selection of (you guessed it), cakes. But it turns out they do pretty good coffees too. And sandwiches.

We had:

One of us opted for a small Americano, and one of us chose a flat white. We resisted the temptation of cake, although next time we’ve planned to save room for the courgette cake, which looked incredible.

We thought:

The look

The flat white (pictured above) was certainly aesthetically pleasing with a pretty leaf pattern on top. The Americano was, as you would expect, less exciting but still nicely presented in a black cup and saucer – and to be honest, anything looks cool on a rustic wooden table, so bonus points go to The Cake Shed for that.

The taste

Both coffees were suitably strong – not ‘heart palpitations for the rest of the afternoon’ strong, but a good level – there was no falling asleep at our desks at 3pm, anyway. The flat white was creamy but not too rich.

The price

Very reasonable – the Americano set us back £2.30 and the flat white £2.50. If we’d left it there we would have been fine, but we were seduced by the sandwiches and ended up getting lunch too, which made the coffee trip slightly pricier but definitely worth the venture.
