Tunbridge Wells' ice rink records most succesful year ever

A RECORD 40,000 people used the ice rink in Calverley Grounds over the festive season.

Returning for its seventh year, the Tunbridge Wells attraction was open every day except Christmas Day from November 17 to January 1.

There were also specialist Parent and Toddler sessions.

It was attended by 39,827 skaters, an increase of 613 from the previous year, to provide an economic boost for operators Tunbridge Wells Borough Council [TWBC].

Delighted

Cabinet member for Leisure Councillor Jane March said: “We are delighted that the ice rink has been even busier.

“Nearly 40,000 people enjoyed skating in the park at Calverley Grounds this winter, demonstrating that the rink continues to be popular with all ages.

“This year we saw an increase in the numbers enjoying our Parent and Toddler sessions (up from 1,392 to 1,472) and more families than ever before experienced the ice with over 6,500 family tickets sold.”

She added: “We look forward to welcoming the rink back to Calverley Grounds next Christmas.”

TWBC has yet to disclose how much money the rink generated.

The attraction was opened in a ceremony with performances from Gillingham Silver Blades Skating Team and Canterbury Hellfire Wheelchair Rugby Team.
