Aldi planning a November launch for its Tunbridge Wells store

25th April 2019

SUPERMARKET chain Aldi is opening a new store in Tunbridge Wells in November.

The budget retailer is advertising for vacancies on its recruitment website for the store, which is to be located on the site of the former Toys R Us superstore at the Great Lodge Retail Park in Longfield Road.

There has been speculation about the site ever since the toy retailer went into administration last year, leaving the unit empty.

The German supermarket chain had submitted a planning application via a third party developer to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council at the end of last year, to extend the use of the abandoned retail unit to include food and drink.

It had been thought the company was planning to open a Tunbridge Wells branch off Eridge Road, near to supermarket rival Sainsbury’s, but it appears those plans may have been scrapped in favour for the Great Lodge store.

The company has been approached for comment but have said they do not have any information on the new outlet at present.
